Last week, the West Haven Fire Department taught Washington 3rd and 4th graders how to get out of their homes quickly and safely in case of a fire. Students practiced staying low to get to safety in WHFDโs smoke (fog) trailer, which looked like a mini living room and kitchen, as fog was created to mimic smoke. Students responded to hearing the smoke detector and crawled out. WHFD also reminded students of the importance of having a working smoke detector at home.
Washington 3rd graders would like to thank Mr. Depew and the West Haven Rotary for their once again generous donation of a dictionary to each 3rd grade student. They will put these to good use!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Family Math Night at the high school scheduled for Thursday, October 19th, has been canceled. The schools will reschedule the event, and look forward to hosting it another day. The new date and time will be announced once it is confirmed.
Due to inclement weather in Fridayโs forecast, the West Haven High School football game against North Haven High School has been moved to tomorrow, ๐๐ก๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐๐๐ฒ, ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ญ๐ก. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Ken Strong Stadium.

Washington School held its ABC Bootcamp earlier this week! For 26 days, students learned the letters of the alphabet and the sounds of those letters. Each day, they made a chart with pictures for each letter, practiced writing the letter, and made an alphabet hat for each letter!
They concluded the ABC Bootcamp with a fashion show! Check out some pictures of the creative vests the students made.

Washington held its first All School yesterday! We went over the school rules and expectations, practiced how to be a good audience, and celebrated our Students of the Month as well as our Lexia Super Stars. Students of the Month are chosen by showing good work habits and a positive attitude. Lexia Super Stars are chosen by how many units a student earned by learning in the program. Students also learned that we will be working on getting them a library card that will allow them to borrow books from the book mobile and main branches, if they visit with their family.
