I hope you had a safe and enjoyable summer, and your family is looking forward to the 2023-2024 school year here at Seth G. Haley. Our school staff anxiously awaits your smiling, energetic faces!
School will begin for students on Monday, August 28 at 8:55 a.m. Students will come to school at the following times:
A.M. Pre-K: 8:55 - 11:35
P.M. Pre- K: 12:35 - 3:10
Kindergarten – Grade 4: 8:55 - 3:10
As you may know, we have about 400 students. 200 or more students ride the bus and over 100 students are “dropped-off and/or picked up” on any given day. This makes our arrival and dismissal procedures extremely important; as a school, we cannot compromise on safety or afford to make a mistake during the process. To that end, please review our procedures below.
MORNING PROCEDURES: We utilize a valet or “kiss and go” lane system, you do not exit car.
1. Big buses will drop students off in the rear of the school. Small buses drop by Grade 3 and 4 -red entrance.
2. Drop-offs will begin at 8:50 a.m in front of the school. There are NO staff members on duty until 8:50 am. Please do not drop off students unless an adult is outside.
3. Cars must pull up all the way to the farthest spot in the drop-off area, even if it is not directly outside your student’s grade-level entrance. Use the red (all Grades 3 and 4), blue (pre-k, Kdg, Meehan, Austin), or yellow (McDonough, Wysoczanski, all Grade 2) entrances depending on the classroom teacher.
4. Students must exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle ONLY even if this means hopping over a car seat or younger sibling. Please have your child ready to exit the car immediately as parents should not turn off the engine or exit the car for any reason.
5. Please, drive slowly.
If you are unable to follow the above procedures or need to conduct school business, please park on South Street, or another side road and walk your child across one of our crosswalks located at Mohawk Drive or Central Avenue. Remember, do not cut across the grassy area, or parking lot for any reason, even if you are accompanying your child.
AFTERNOON PROCEDURES: There is NO valet lane, parents need to park on South Street or a side road and walk down to retrieve their child. Pulling into the staff lot is prohibited.
1. All big buses will board for dismissal in the rear of the school.
2. Students being picked up come out of their grade-specific/color entrances. If you regularly bring younger siblings with you to pick up your student(s), always keep them under your close supervision. Parents need to park on South Street or a side road and walk down to retrieve their child. Pulling into the staff lot is NOT permitted.
3. Parents will be asked to fill out a dismissal plan for each of your children. Forms will be sent home on the first day of school. Please send it back ASAP. Only individuals listed on the dismissal plan will be allowed to pick up your child.
*You or your designee may be asked to show your I.D. the first few days at school until teachers get to know you. This is for your child’s safety.
If your child regularly rides the bus but you plan to pick them up for some reason, please notify the school with a written note sent in with your child.
Our PTA will host a coffee and… in our front courtyard on the first day for new families and mark your calendars for our Open House on Wednesday, September 7 at 6:00 pm.
